How To Use Microsoft Safety Scanner To Clean Up Your Computer

If you are like most people today, you come home and get on the internet and surf the web, looking for interesting news and sites. Most users know about viruses on the web, but some do the unthinkable, and surf the web unprotected. It only takes one "drive by" virus to infect your computer, and worse yet, some even start emailing embarrassing emails to every one of your contacts in your email program.

Sometimes the unthinkable happens and you find your computer acting strangely, your home page will not load or worse yet, you find a strange program starting up when you get to your desktop. At this point you start freaking out, wondering what to do. All is not lost, Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free Microsoft online application that will assist you in cleaning up your hard drive.

System Requirements
To run the Microsoft Safety Scanner your computer must meet some very simple system requirements that most computers sold in the past five years should easily meet. The scanner will run on Windows XP, Windows 7, and Windows Vista. The CPU should be a 500 MHz or higher and have at least 256 MB of RAM with at least 200 MB of available space on the hard drive.

Downloading the Software
The safest way to logon to your computer until the virus is remove is by logging into safe mode. When booted into safe mode, your computer only loads up the most basic drivers and files. The virus will not be active, and is more easily removed from this mode.

Safe mode has multiple choices, but we will concentrate on one mode, Safe Mode, Safe Mode With Networking. This will still allow you to connect to the internet to download Microsoft Safety Scanner.

Steps To Start Up In Safe Mode
  1. From Shut Down menu, choose Restart and OK.
  2. When the computer starts back up, press the F8 key.
  3. You can arrow down to Safe Mode With Networking.
  4. Press Enter.
Download Microsoft Safety Scanner
Once you are at the desktop, bring up Internet Explorer and browse to Google.com. You will then type in Microsoft Safety Scanner, and go to the download page. Simply download the application from Microsoft's page. Then double-click the downloaded application and allow it to install on your computer.

During installation, you will need to accept the End user license agreement, and then choose the Scan Type. You have three choices: Quick, Full, and Customized. I suggest the full scan to ensure the virus is found and removed properly.

Once you click next, the scanner begins to scan your computer for viruses, spyware, and remove any that is found. The best part about this free software, is the report it gives you after the scan has finished. It will report about all the files that were removed, giving you a record of what was done to your computer. I suggest running multiple scans, and you will find that rebooting after Microsoft Safety Scanner has cleaned up the viruses and spyware, it will actually find a few more after rebooting back into safe mode.
I find the Microsoft Safety Scanner runs its scan very fast, and is very thorough, leave it to Microsoft to create an application to cleanup the holes in its operating system. Warning: After 10 days, your Microsoft Safety Scanner will expire, so I suggest finding a good antivirus program that you can install before then next virus hits.

The internet is not always a safe place, and everyone at one time or another will find that their computer has been infected. You have learned how Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free online tool that you can use to clean up your computer after being infected.

Computer Hardware Education Vs Software and IT sector

The heart and soul of a computer lies in the hardware it uses. And that is why computer hardware engineers are such a vital aspect when it comes to developing computers. The profession is also regarded as one of the top 5 tech careers of the future. Also there are many engineering careers in the hardware field that are financially rewarding as well as lucrative. The computer engineer is of prime importance as he is responsible for maintaining and building every tiny aspect of the computer from the circuit board to the processing of the computer. Computer hardware and other hardware networking is of crucial importance when it comes to the proper functioning of the computer.

Computer hardware exists of different types and can be differentiated on the basis of their complexity. It could include the development and analysis of computer chips, circuit boards, computer systems, and related equipment such as keyed equipment such as keyboards, modems, and printers. Although a computer hardware engineer's work has often been termed to be similar to that of an electrical engineer, there is a vast difference between the two careers. The hardware engineer operates more on giving ideas and working on intuitive chip designs as well as the development of the entire computer system. The R & D that a hardware engineer has to do sometimes tends to be more challenging and tougher than the work of a software engineer.

Computer engineers are also responsible for the efficient operating on developing new designs of the hardware of the computer. This also means the designing of smoother and faster chips with time. To put it short, computer hardware engineers do research, develop design as well as test and analyze new circuits and chips that help run the computer faster and smooth. Lately the impetus has also been given equally on the computer networking sector with the rise of internet and internet security. There are many IT companies who tend to hire engineers with background knowledge of computer networking as it helps offer flexibility to the company. There are also special courses related to the networking of computers to help engineers get proficient in it and boost their career even more. It also comes as an important added advantage on an engineer's resume.

Computer hardware and networking is certainly a career that every aspiring student in the world of computer education should think about considering the opportunities and work benefits it offers in due time. No matter how much the software department excels, the dependency of it on hardware engineers is always bound to be there as the hardware is the heart of the computer and engineers who are good with handling computer hardware and developing faster chipsets and circuits can certainly expect to achieve a higher pay raise , even higher than software engineers. Also considering the number of institutes that offer computer hardware courses, the student gets an early platform to manage and figure out the complex failures of computer and also manage to find a solution to get it working properly.

A Career in Computers? Let Me Count the Ways

Computers aren't taking over our lives, they succeeded some time ago. If you drive a car, use a telephone, warm up cold pizza in a microwave, watch TV, listen to music, buy a plane ticket or a movie ticket or for that matter anything else online, if you surf, text, or tweet you are using a computerized device. This article is an attempt to categorize the major professions in the computer field, in an attempt to help people who are interested in finding a career therein.

Computer science. This course of study is the most pervasive in the field because it covers a lot of ground. You'll probably want a bachelor's degree or be working towards one when you go looking for work associated with computer science. It covers the creation of new technology that may be applied to hardware of all types. It also encompasses software in the sense that computer scientists work at improving on or developing new software languages. Computer science is both application of theory to new projects and knowledge to the task of solving existing problems.

Database administration is the management of information stored on computers. People who work in this field may be information systems specialists or engineers, IT specialists, and information system developers. Many specialize in software programs or language such as SQL, Oracle or Sybase.

An important subcategory in this field is information security. People who make careers in this field often take courses and become certified for specific languages or products such those mentioned above along with languages such as Java, C++ and Microsoft products. They will also usually obtain an associate's or bachelor's degree in information systems or a related title.

Network analysts, network systems specialists, network developers, network architects and data communications specialists all focus on the networks of computer stations that share a database. They design networks, scale them, work on security solutions for them, install them, and enlarge them.

They work on in-house local area networks all the way up to multinational systems. For this particular professional area most professionals hold a bachelor's or master's degree in management information systems (MIS), in information science, in IT development or sometimes, an MBA with concentration in information systems.

Software engineers design and build software programs. They work with computer programmers who often write the code meant to accomplish what the engineer is trying to do. Some specialize on computer systems software, others on applications software. Degree choices include a bachelor's in computer information systems, computer science or software engineering.

Computer systems administrators or network administrators are responsible for keeping the system operating properly and for overseeing changes such as expansion or a change in software. Often they are in charge of information security as well, or they may turn to a computer security specialist. Computer support specialists are the repair and replace experts that manage problems with hardware and often with software as well.

This is but a small sampling. If you are interested in obtaining the education for one of these fast-growing occupations, consult a curriculum specialist at one of the colleges or talk to a faculty member in the field if you can catch up to one. You can also call a local computer consulting firm and find a cooperative professional; those firms that install and repair systems have a good perch from which to survey the field.

Ensure Your Computers Are Secure With IT Security Consultants

At some point in our lives most of us will be ensnared by some kind of internet virus, whether its due to poor quality anti-virus tech, dodgy emails, phishing attacks or infection by a friends computer internet virus' affect us all. Viruses range massively in terms of effect and the dangers they pose, a virus on a personal computer can be bad enough but it can be devastating if your business networks and systems are infected. The best way to ensure that your business is protected from viruses is by utilising the skills of IT security consultants.

Dangerous viruses

Many company computers hold vital data, either from clients or the business in question as well as personal communications. This is not information you want in someone else's hands or worse, leaked onto the internet. Viruses can lie dormant in your system for months, intercepting and collecting often vital data without the users knowledge, others can crash sites or even computer software.

The higher the success, the greater the threat

The more successful and prolific a business, the higher the risk of attack. Instead of being affected by viruses intended to infect as many computers as possible at random, hackers and cyber criminals deliberately target a business in order take information and make money from it illegally. There are scores of hackers and cyber criminals searching for sites with weak security in order to exploit it for their own personal gain. Companies like Sony and Amazon have all faced difficulties with hackers and cyber criminals; everyone needs to bear security in mind.

Technology moves at an incredibly fast rate, viruses are no different. New ones are being constantly created and so security technology has to keep up with them. IT security consultants aim to make sure that your systems have the most up to date protection to deal with everything the internet has to throw at them.

Security at a business level

IT security consultants use their valuable experience to ensure that your company's website is secure and helping you move your business forward. The type of anti-virus technology you might use at home is not recommended at a business level, as previously stated your company may be directly targeted and aggressively pursued something domestic anti-virus tech was not designed to deal with.

The internet is a vital resource for modern business yet it also brings fresh dangers and security risks, IT security consultants can ensure that you get all the advantages the internet brings whilst minimising the hazards.

NCSA Study Shows Many Computers Lack Antivirus Protection

Even with the scads of information available, even with the numerous antivirus options available to consumers, and even though internet users are inundated with offers for antivirus and anti spyware programs, it seems that some people prefer to take their chances when it comes to infecting their computers. According to the second annual AOL/National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) Online Safety Study, fewer than 60 percent of survey participants had antivirus protection software installed on their computers, and those who do fail to update it more than once a week.

Studies show that anywhere from 200 to 600 new viruses and other online infections are released each month, and the NCSA reports that 23 percent of Americans are each month affected by phishing attacks. Additionally, 81 percent of protected computers are not fully protected - very few users have the necessary trio of updated antivirus software, spyware protection, and a secure firewall. According to the survey, however, 83 percent of participants thought themselves secure from online infections.

Viruses, spyware, adware, and other malware all have the potential to pose a serious threat to your computer, not only to the hardware itself but to your personal information and identifying details. A good antivirus security suite should be able to detect and cure viruses, spyware, adware, worms, trojans, malicious code, malware, and keyloggers, all of which can do grave damage to your computer. Updating your software daily and scanning regularly for any unfamiliar or suspicious files on the computer, including archives, email, and instant messages, is also a necessary step in catching and preventing infection.

Due to the sheer number and variety of online threats, it's difficult to keep track of them specifically by name. However, the basic threats you should watch out for are as follows:

Spyware: A program that gathers personal information logged in your computer by noting your internet browsing habits and recording your keystrokes and passwords. It can also hijack your browser settings, redirect your search queries, and transfer any noted information to third parties for the purpose of identity theft.
Virus: Viruses infect the files on the computer and spread by replicating themselves. A virus can also be spread by email, and will automatically mail itself to people in the address book of the account it infects. Though worms and Trojans are not technically viruses, they often fall into the subcategory of "virus." A worm is a piece of software that replicates itself via security holes in networks, infecting vulnerable machines by copying itself and spreading to any other connected, unprotected computer. A Trojan horse is a program that masquerades as a benign application, but actually will damage your computer if you try to run the program.
Adware: Adware generates revenue by displaying advertisements on your screen, offering links to follow that take the user to the advertised website. Third parties then collect money for every hit on that site. Some adware programs gather personal information about you and select ads to display based on your browsing habits.

To be fair, the age of the browser might have something to do with the high instance of computer infection. The NCSA states that homes with children are more likely to have their computers infected by spyware or adware. In fact, more than 69 percent of homes with children under 18 were infected. But don't blame it all on the kids - 58 percent of child-free households had their fair share of spyware and adware infection.

With so many viruses, spyware, and other malware clamoring to infect your computer, it is essential to have in place the necessary preventative tools to catch and eliminate online infections. The fact that so many new threats are released on such a regular basis is not an accident - hackers and the writers of malicious code are targeting those who mistakenly think that using only a firewall or updating once a month will keep their computers safe. Persistence and diligence in keeping your software, updates, and antivirus protections software current can help ensure your information and computer access remain yours and yours alone.
